Safeguarding Policy

Clubs are recommended:

That leaders taking young persons caving should be vetted unless the young person's parent or guardian is present.

Vetting is the common term used to describe checks carried out under the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Basic DBS checks can be requested online by individuals and applicants receive a certificate verifying the results, however these checks are not adequate for the purpose of taking young persons caving and an Enhanced Check will be necessary. You cannot apply for an Enhanced Check yourself. This has to be done through a Home Office registered body and there may be a charge. BCA is able to provide this service in appropriate circumstances. For further information contact the BCA Safeguarding Officer.
